Fiona's First Time Cooking

This is Fiona's first time cooking. Fi and Dada made fried ravioli and fresh marinara. They planned to watch some basketball right after.

Those are going to taste great!!!

Unfortunately, Fiona and Dada never got to eat those raviolis. As the oil was heating up the thermometer broke and fell in the hot oil, a few pops later little drops of silver were coming out. Long story short, Mama looked on the EPA website and followed the instructions for proper disposal of mercury. She called the fire department to dispose of as instructed by the EPA and within 10 minutes we were evacuated from our home, the Fire Department had a regular fire truck and a HAZ-MAT fire truck in front of our house. Then came the Red Cross, Home Land Security, the Las Vegas Police department big white "Crime Lab" truck (pictured below) and a bunch of guys in white space suits. They went into our house and cleaned up the mess with their little robot in a box. 3-4 hours later we were finally let back into our house and the basketball games were over.

The moral of this story, to properly dispose of a thermometer full of mercury. DO NOT call the fire department for proper disposal. Be safe and throw it over the fence into the neighbors yard instead:)

The following day, Dada went out and bought a deep fryer with a built in thermometer.
